The Econobaits weigh 70 grams (about 1/3 the size of PIGOUT) and contain 26 mg of 1080 (plus a 10% average) in each bait. Allow about 3 baits per large pig. It is a cost- effective, targeted and convenient option for all baiting programs for feral pigs.

We announce a NEW pig bait option called the PIGOUT® 1080 Econobait. This bait was originally developed as a possible carrier for sodium nitrite but did not have the required stability. During testing, we found that pigs were readily eating the placebo (no nitrite) baits off the top of piles of normal or fermented wheat and corn, so we decided to use this highly palatable carrier to provide as shelf-stable 1080 pig bait option to industry. Pigout 1080 Econobait is available in fully labelled 100 and 200 bait pails.

Key Features of PIGOUT® 1080 Econobait are:

  • Easy to handle (packed in sturdy pails of 100 or 200 baits)

  • Indefinite shelf-life in original packaging at normal room temperatures

  • Highly palatable to pigs

  • Negligible interest by a range of non-target animals and birds tested

  • Placebo (non-poisoned) option is available if pre-feeding is needed

  • Can be deployed without hoppers (but we favour this for lower pre-feed labour costs and increased NT safety)

  • Excellent hopper available for large and small programs

Non target safety is a key feature of PIGOUT® 1080 Econobait

In studies of efficacy in water hole pig traps, in Central NSW and without using hoppers, we achieved an average 86% pig knockdown (most on first night) with only one NT death (being only one of 90 co-trapped feral goats).  Kangaroos (22) and dorper sheep (10), also co-trapped, were unaffected.  Also, goannas present and scavenging the pig carcasses were unaffected. Birds did not show interest in the ECONOBAITS.
